Rise Up Magazine - Gold Coast SUNS

Tusk has teamed up again with the Gold Coast SUNS, this time creating the first issue of 'Rise Up' for 2011. The magazine, which is exclusive to SUNS members only, has had a slight change in format this year - moving up to a 40pg A5 booklet. Packed full of exclusive articles, images, events, as the first issue of the year there is a strong focus on introducing the team through an extensive player profiles section.

INTO THE VOID

I've never been a watch fan being that I have never been far enough from the time to need to know what the time is. So besides confusing myself with that statement, nothing says 'must have fashion accessory' like a border line illegible watch.

I'll take two thanks. Enjoy.

The Dark Side of the Lens will leave you inspired like no other. It looks like it has been around for some time, but it is the first time I have seen it after stumbling across it over the weekend.

Take the time to watch this amazing piece. You won't want your money back.

Radiohead - Lotus Flower

The new Radiohead album, 'The King of Limbs' is out - get it here. Apart from the album packaging providing the world's first 'newspaper' album and the subsequent suprise release a day earlier than announced, what's surpised me is the clip for track 'Lotus Flower'. I never thought I'd see Thom Yorke this way in a video - past dance / part crazy guy having a fit - Love It! Let's hope the Splendour rumours turn true

Music blog Album Of The Week thinks of albums as friends. You can party with some, and just chill out with others. Some are okay to introduce to your parents, while others you are ashamed to even be associated with. Some are beautiful and poetic. Some are short, scary and only good in small doses. Each week AOTW features an album that might make a good friend for you.

Enjoy the flavours.

Wave Garden - Want! Want! Want!

So this has been talked about for some time, rumblings and rumours from within the surfing community, but now with the website release providing more info and footage than the teaser clips posted over the last few months, Wave Garden has been revealed and it looks awesome! You've probably seen the Flowrider in action and maybe the Malaysian Wave Pool - claimed to be the world's best -  but the technology surrounding the Wave Garden promising to provide surfers with the most realistic 'ocean wave' experience yet. Sure they waves in the footage are small, but the shape is great and the ride is realistic. They've promised to show us footage of chest high waves in action in few months which I can't wait to see. I'm not saying this will ever replace surfing as we know it today on a broad scale but the possibilities that Wave Garden are opening up are definately exciting.

From a logo / brand point of view, such an innovative concept could have benefited from a bit more attention here.... maybe the guys had trouble keeping out of the water though to direct too much energy towards this. Anyway, when I hit that Lotto jackpot I know what I'm putting in the backyard.

PresPlayPause - Fear, Hope and Digital Culture

The digital revolution of the last decade has unleashed creativity and talent of people in an unprecedented way, unleashing unlimited creative opportunites. But does democratized culture mean better art, film, music and literature or is true talent instead flooded and drowned in the vast digital ocean of mass culture? Is it cultural democracy or mediocrity?

This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world’s most influential creators of the digital era.

The film was shot globally between August 2009 – January 2011, covering more than 150 hours of interview footage with international creatives and thinkers - representing the state of digitized culture today. Looking forward to this one.

Directors Statement

After working in the creative industry for a number of years we got a bit tired of the loud complaints regarding the disappearance of business models due to pirating and continuing profit losses. These subjects had been discussed to death at media panels and in newspapers around the world. We felt that an important part of the story had been lost - the unprecedented cultural impact. Sure, there are lots of industry problems caused by technological innovation but there are also enormous new opportunities for creation.

In our daily work we encounter numerous people from all over the world that, just like us, have grown up with technology as their friend. We were intrigued by the dichotomy: artists were able to create with the same technology that allowed pirating and was subverting old business models.

It might be a bit bold to do a film about something that’s in such rapid transformation, where nothing is set and where you really can’t distinguish between the villains and heroes. But we didn’t want to give a definite answer. We simply wanted to make a snapshot of today - documenting both the positive and negative aspects of democratized culture. You will not walk out of the theatre with more answers, but hopefully with more thoughts.

Happy Birthday Bob!

Born on the 6th Feb, 1945, today Nesta Robert "Bob" Marley would have been 66 - Happy Birthday Bob! Which gets me thinking again... and without going into a long winded whinge about the state of modern music... Is anyone really saying anything anymore? Who will be our next Elvis, John, Bob or Kurt ? Hmmm.. is it you Beiber or maybe even you Gaga ??

Whistler ain't so big!

I really loved Whistler Blackcomb when I went there a couple of years ago. The snow was great, the mountains were big and people were friendly. In fact, I loved it so much so that I wanted to move there, but now the place seems small....really small.
